What is ATM Cave?
Actun Tunichil Muknal means "Cave of the Stone Sepulcher." The National Institute of Culture and History, or NICH, identifies the site near Teakettle Village in the Cayo District and describes evidence of ancient Maya ritual activity inside the cave. Belize's official tourism site describes the approach as a drive from San Ignacio followed by a hike through Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve, several stream crossings, and a short swim into the cave.The cave is both an outdoor adventure and a protected cultural site. Pottery, stoneware, skeletal remains, and other archaeological material remain in place. Guests must stay with the guide, follow the designated route, and avoid touching or disturbing
